Canto da Planície is not just a debut release. It is a conversation between two Portugals – the granite North of Trás-os-Montes and the sun-scorched South of the Alentejo – translated into the language of Afro House and folktronica.

A Transmontano in the Alentejo

Glender was born in Trás-os-Montes, a region of stone, steep paths and cold winters. His musical identity carries that landscape – the wind, the distance, the memory of those who worked the land. But it was in the Alentejo, looking across an endless plain under a merciless sun, that he recognised the same truth in a different shape.

The geography changes, but the soul of the land – resilience, silence, dignity – does not.

Giving the Plain a Pulse

Stillness is not emptiness. The production respects the space and weight of the landscape: percussion that carries the earth, melodic lines that open like a horizon, and electronics used not to erase tradition but to give it a new pulse.

The result sits at the crossroads of Afro House and folktronica – organic, cinematic, deeply rooted. It continues the path Glender began with Canto de Xisto, trading the cold strength of stone for the heat and sacred calm of the South.

The Portuguese lyrics place beauty and work side by side – the cork oak and the sweat, the golden fields and the hands that sustain them. The weathered skin and the hand that never fails are not metaphors. They are portraits of a Portugal rarely represented with dignity: a Portugal of labour, community, silence and memory.

The official video uses AI not to fabricate reality but to build a visual poem from symbolism and emotion – an elder’s face as landscape, a communal fire as shelter, a village that may not exist on any map but lives inside collective memory.
